[Handclap] Action! A- You’re a diabetic Yes I am. What’s up with France? We complain a lot. We drink wine another cliche Yeah, the baguette is not a cliche it’s true. We actually buy it and eat it
pretty much every day. We don’t wear that many striped t-shirt, that’s not true. We never wear hat, not true, never. About Cannes, I think it’s a great city honestly and I
think it’s a city that nobody actually knows. It has lots of cliches in France,
you know it’s really showing off your money kind of luxurious which is true
but it’s not just that and it’s actually a lot of different people different
social classes and it’s really beautiful weather and beautiful region. A- Would you say it’s always sunny? Except for today, yes. A- Why did you sign up for this this? This project was mixing two aspects of my life the curiosity about people and
what’s going on elsewhere and diabetes it makes sense. And I felt somehow that
you know I lived in the UK and in Italy and I met other French people and they
often don’t realize the chance that we have in France and we use to say you
know that the grass is always greener elsewhere you know you
always seek for something that you don’t have and even people from my
generation and I see the world from my diabetic perspective and point of view and
it changes things completely And I always seen the world in that way so
these project’s opening my eyes even more you know what’s going on just behind the
border from a diabetic point of view and you realize that yeah you’re lucky to be
where you are I’m extremely lucky like I like really really lucky! I’m not saying we’re trying to make a difference but maybe to help or to help understanding because I think it’s a disease that
you have to understand to be able to live peacefully with. A- Shall we do some quick question related to diabetes? Yeah, OK. A- What makes you pissed off? Not controlling understanding what’s going on… A- What makes you happy? Not thinking about it (diabetes) sometimes… forgetting it you just don’t think about
checking your blood sugar you just enjoying your present moment and that
makes me happy to be able to have that kind of moments in my daily life
although I have a chronic disease. A- How many percent of the day is diabetes related, of your thoughts? 70 percent something like that I think
about it often… every time you eat you have to think about it every time you do
something you have to think about it you even though you’re going to take a walk
as simple as that You have to
predict it, anticipating it, so even though it’s not like just stressful
thought or just something that takes a lot of time to process it you just have it
in your mind. Forgetting about it completely is really extremely rare for
me. A- If you can have a sign attached to you that everyone will see all the time,
communicate to other people around you everyday, if it was just one message? About diabetes? A- Yeah. It’s gonna sound terrible, but like… I wouldn’t carry it all the time but… sometimes I feel like I want to say that it’s harder than it
seems, you know like people– everybody knows a diabetic person, probably, type 1 type 2… And they think they know they think they know okay you have
to be careful about sugar you have to be careful about insulin but in my case at
least it’s harder than that it’s trying to find the balance in me what is
me what is diabetes how the two are living together
and this is difficult I’m trying you know I’m trying to find the balance but
if so if sometimes you feel like I’m showing too much, If I am talking about it
too much, just be indulgent because you don’t know how hard it is to find
this balance. It would be just give me time to explain it to you and you will,
you’ll understand what it is you know my diabetes… Just give me time, and I
should also give myself time… It would be yes, you know I’m diabetic, but
it’s harder than you think and you will understand why, but
I can make it, you know I can make you understand what it actually is, just
give me time to do it.
