Audrey Abbott Shares Her Breast Cancer Story – #KeepABreastPDX This Is My Story

My name is Audrey Abbott. I’m from Portland,
Oregon. I’m 28 years old and This Is My Story. I was living in Spain for several years. I noticed I had a lump but then when I came
back to The States I was getting all my appointments out of the way since I was going off my parents
insurance. So I went in for a physical and told her “Oh,
I have this lump.” She said, “Oh, well it’s probably some
sort of hormonal thing. But we should just check it out anyways.” I went in for an ultrasound and then for a
biopsy, and then that’s when it showed. The positive.. I was thinking about this after watching the
other interviews. I think that overall, it was, you know, a
terrible experience. It has made me more aware of the people around
me and more aware of myself, my body. [It] prompted me to do things like make my
own cosmetics, spend more time with food preparations, all these things.. exercise. I think it’s just made me an overall better
friend. It’s also just a reminder that you don’t
really know what people are dealing with and to treat everyone with respect. Just be aware of your own body. I think that people generally know when something’s
not right and stress yourself and take the steps necessary to be able to make it okay. I think that I’ve kind of just ignored them
since all the stuff has happened. So it’s kind of interesting to see them
right here. It sheds more of a positive light on the whole
situation versus going to a group and sharing your story. This, I think is a fun and interesting thing
to do, that’s a positive.
